Treatment
Non-healing foot ulcers threatening limb viability? Our physician-directed protocols aim to improve tissue oxygenation and circulation in patients with non-healing lower extremity wounds, which may help reduce the risk of further tissue loss. Each patient is assessed individually to determine whether HBOT is appropriate for their condition.
Skin Graft Healing
Treatment
Compromised surgical reconstructions due to poor perfusion. HBOT may help preserve threatened tissue and support graft survival in appropriately selected patients, as determined by our hyperbaric physicians.
Radiation Tissue Damage
Radiation is a lifesaver, but it can sometimes leave behind lasting damage to your skin, soft tissue, and even your jawbone. This happens when the area loses its healthy blood supply. Our specialized protocols use hyperbaric oxygen to regrow tiny blood vessels and deliver vital oxygen deep into these “starved” tissues, helping your body repair and strengthen itself after radiation. We assess each patient individually to determine whether HBOT is appropriate for their condition.
Sudden Sensorineural Hearing Loss
Idiopathic hearing loss presented within the therapeutic window. When initiated promptly after onset and combined with corticosteroids, HBOT may improve hearing recovery outcomes in patients with idiopathic sudden sensorineural hearing loss. Early referral is important — contact us to determine whether you are within the therapeutic window.
Thermal Burns
Deep partial and full-thickness burns benefit from HBOT, which supports healing burn wounds. For patients with deep partial-thickness or full-thickness thermal burns, HBOT may help reduce edema, support tissue preservation, and promote healing as part of a comprehensive burn care plan.

Treatment Protocol
Typically 20–40 daily sessions (90 minutes each), Monday through Friday. Your physician will establish a protocol based on your specific condition, for example, 30–40 sessions for diabetic wounds, 40–60 for radiation injury, or 10–20 for sudden hearing loss. Patients rest comfortably in our chambers while breathing 100% medical-grade oxygen.

Weekly physician assessments are included to track your healing progress throughout the treatment course. OHIP covers all HBOT treatment sessions and associated physician assessments for qualifying patients. For other care needs, our team will coordinate with your primary care provider.

Is hyperbaric therapy at Evolve Hyperbarics covered by OHIP?
Yes. Evolve Hyperbarics is an OHIP-approved provider. High-pressure oxygen therapy is fully insured for six specific medical conditions: Chronic Refractory Osteomyelitis, Diabetic Lower Extremity Wounds, Failed Skin Grafts and Flaps, Radiation Tissue Damage, Sudden Sensorineural Hearing Loss, and Thermal Burns. If you have a valid Ontario Health Card and meet medical necessity criteria, you pay nothing for treatment.
What If My Condition Isn't OHIP-Covered?
If your condition does not meet OHIP criteria for hyperbaric treatment, our physicians will advise you honestly and, where appropriate, discuss alternative options or refer you back to your primary care provider. We do not recommend HBOT unless it is clinically appropriate for your specific situation.
Do I need a doctor's referral to visit Evolve Hyperbarics?
No physician referral is needed to book your initial consultation. Our hyperbaric physicians will assess your condition directly and, if HBOT is appropriate, manage all required OHIP documentation on your behalf. If you have an existing care team, we are happy to coordinate with them.
What should I expect during HBOT treatment?
Each HBO therapy session lasts approximately 90 minutes. You’ll lie comfortably in our pressurized chamber while breathing 100% oxygen through a mask. The pressure change feels similar to ascending or descending in an airplane; ear pressure equalization is normal. Many patients read, listen to music, or rest during treatment. Our trained technologists monitor you throughout via intercom and video.
How many treatments will I need?
Treatment protocols vary by condition. Most patients require between 20 and 40 daily sessions, Monday through Friday. Diabetic wounds typically need 30-40 sessions, while radiation damage may require 40-60. Sudden hearing loss is time-sensitive and usually treated with 10-20 sessions. Your Evolve Hyperbarics physician will establish a personalized protocol based on your specific diagnosis and response to therapy.
